Iberia Builds for the Next Century

Iberia is using its Flight Plan 2030 to expand its fleet, strengthen its transatlantic network and respond to changing passenger expectations as it prepares to celebrate its centenary in 2027.

Victor Moneo, Global Sales Director, says the €6 billion plan is already producing visible results. “When we launched the plan, Iberia had 43 long-haul aircraft. Today, thanks to the implementation of this project, the airline already has 51 of these aircraft,” he says, with the goal of reaching 70.

That growth is supporting new routes and additional capacity across the Americas. Iberia has launched six long-haul destinations in the past year, including Orlando, Newark, Toronto and Monterrey, while reinforcing markets including Miami, New York, Buenos Aires and Santo Domingo. According to Moneo, demand in Latin America and the United States has remained healthy throughout 2026.

The A321XLR is giving Iberia additional flexibility. “This aircraft has allowed us to open destinations that we might not have been able to serve if they had to be operated with an A330 or an A350,” he says.

Investment is also reaching the passenger experience, from the new Emerald Sorolla lounge in Madrid to the rollout of free high-speed Starlink internet across the fleet. Iberia also has more than 100 generative AI agents supporting operational, logistical and customer-facing processes.

Passenger expectations are changing too. Moneo says travelers from the Americas increasingly agree “that it is worth paying a little more to travel better,” helping drive strong leisure demand for Business and Premium Economy.

For Moneo, WTE Miami is the perfect setting to show how Iberia is shaping the airline for the years ahead, just weeks before it begins celebrations marking its first 100 years.
